Our History

1930s - Peerless Foods

1930s

Peerless Foods began its life in Sydney in 1933 with the creation of bakery fats supplying to local bakeries.

In the 1950s Peerless Foods, commenced recycling and rendering meat by-products in Melbourne, Victoria. Over the years, the refinery was upgraded and expanded with state-of-the-art technology and systems.

1980s

By the 1980s, the company had diversified its operation from tallow to other edible fats and oils, including margarine.

A number of retail and foodservice brands were developed while the company continued to expand into various markets by introducing value-add processes and efficient packaging operations.

2000s - Peerless Foods

2000s

Through a key acquisition in 2005, Peerless Foods purchased Unilever's non-retail margarine and oil business which included the iconic brands of Copha, Fairy and Kremelta.

2020s

After a more recent acquisition in 2022, our range now also includes a ready-to-use range that consists of: pastry rolls, shells, croissants, Danish pastry squares and Danish pastries.

This expansion into ready-to-use bakery products exemplifies our commitment to identifying new opportunities that enhance our portfolio and better serve our customers. As we continue evolving from our humble beginnings, we remain committed to partnerships and market developments that align with our vision.

Today

Peerless Foods provides branded and private label packaged oils, spreads, margarines and shortenings to 5 major segments of the market including Retail, Food Service, Bakery, Ingredients and Export.

Our products are sold through major retailers and key distributors Australia-wide and also exported to many parts of the world, including Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
